Hang Seng Bank and the Federation of Hong Kong Industries (FHKI) will launch the Hang Seng Pearl River Delta (PRD) Environmental Awards this week.

Covering the manufacturing category of the FHKI’s “one factory - one year - one environmental project” (1-1-1) programme, the awards aim to recognize and encourage sound environmental practices by manufacturing companies (including transportation and logistics companies) in Hong Kong and the wider PRD region.

The FHKI launched the 1-1-1 programme in March 2005 with the aim of reducing pollution in Hong Kong and the PRD through industry-wide voluntary participation. The programme invites environmental project entries in eight areas: energy conservation, water management, waste discharge reduction and treatment, recycling of resources, air emissions, noise abatement, green management and others.

Dr Michael Chiu, deputy director of environmental protection, for Hong Kong’s Environmental Protection Department, will officiate at the launch on Thursday June 28, accompanied by Kenneth Ting, chaiman of FHKI and Raymond Or, vice chairman and chief executive, Hang Seng Bank.
