LONDON, June 4 -- The Lord Mayor of London David Brewer has agreed to become chairman of a Chinese green engineering company when it floats on London's alternative investment market Aim within the next few weeks, according to a report in the UK's Sunday Telegraph.

Brewer is to become chairman of Tinci Sanhe Environmental Engineering, a company operating in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, where it makes and fits desulphurisation equipment for coal-fired power plant.

The company is planning to raise £20 million (RMB300 million) on the UK's AIM market according to the Sunday Telegraph.

Brewer, writes Edwards Simpkins, is a leading light of Anglo-Chinese business relations. In 1981, while working for the Sedgwick Group, he set up the first Chinese office for a Western insurance broker in the country. He is also a non-executive director of London Asia Capital, the China-focused investment bank, and is vice president of the Great Britain China Centre.

Tinci Sanhe, of which Brewer will become chairman, presently installs flue gas desulphurization (FGD) equipment under license from American firm Ducon and has fitted its equipment to two 300MW power plants in China, at Jingyuan and Zhanjiang.

It offers three types of desulphurisaton: limestone-gypsum, double alkali and spray dry, with licenses from US firm Ducon for limestone-gypsum equipment and Denmark's NIRO for spray technology. Tinci has also built a FGD laboratory in Guangdong, the Tinci Environmental FGD Technology Research Center which the company says is the only laboratory invested and supported by Guangdong government.
