HK teens queue overnight for shopping bag

The arrival of Anya Hindmarch‘s cult “I am not a plastic bag” canvas shopping bag in Hong Kong saw students queuing up overnight in IFC Mall to be the first to own one.

Around 100 students waited overnight in a roped-off area of the mall Thursday night while by Friday the queue had stretched to Exchange Square.

The bag is billed as an alternative to plastic shopping bags, although it was hard to see how it was really environmentally friendly, coming wrapped in plastic. A company spokesman said the plastic wrap containing the non-plastic bag was “fully biodegradable.”
